Construction Costs Drop in Phoenix

Construction costs continue to decline in Phoenix, but at a slower pace than in the past few months.



There also is a hint that construction is gaining traction, according to a study by Ryder Levett Bucknall, the international consulting firm with offices in Phoenix.  RLB’s Comparative Cost Index shows construction costs in Phoenix have dropped 0.42 percent from January until April.


Only five other major metropolitan areas survey showed continuing construction cost decreases: Denver, Honolulu, Las Vegas, New York and Washington. Construction costs increased the most in Boston with Los Angeles close behind.


Though residential and commercial construction has remained stagnant for the past two years, there are some modest signs of a turnaround.“  In the residential market, construction numbers continue to show strength for the first quarter,” said Scott Macpherson, principal of RLB, who is based in Phoenix. “The outlook remains positive as strong numbers continue to come in from all counties. 


With the sun setting on the home buyer tax credit, the activity that tax dollars have been paying for finally show up with Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties reporting impressive double-digit gains since February.”  ...........read more
