A Weekend of Hope: How the Cap on the BP Well Works
The Lower Marine Riser Package (LMRP) Cap has been collecting over 10,000 barrels of oil daily since its implementation on June 3. Despite this success, an unknown amount of the oil is still escaping and will continue to do so until a new cap is ready sometime in early July.

The oil being collected by the LMRP Cap is being held on the Discoverer Enterprise drillship. However, the Discoverer Enterprise is near maximum capacity due to an underestimation of leaking oil. In the near future a second ship, the Q4000, will help reduce the strain on the Discoverer Enterprise.

Contracted by BP, Wild Well Control Inc., Houston, Texas, was responsible for the completion of the LMRP Cap.
