PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Russell Standard, the leader in proprietary paving solutions, processes and machinery, announces that one of its current projects -- Painters Run Road in Scott Township, PA between Routes 19 and 50 -- will become western Pennsylvania's first road surface with the FIBERMAT technology. FIBERMAT is a road surface sealant process that extends the life of the road, limits cracking and saves money.
"This specialized technique allows us to address the cracking issue that is so prevalent in our region's roads in a method that was previously unavailable," said Matt Johnson, president of Russell Standard. "The technique also has one of the fastest application times allowing traffic flow to resume within twenty minutes."
FIBERMAT, licensed through Midland Asphalt Materials, Inc., allowsRussell Standard to install two layers of emulsion sealant, one layer of proprietary fibers and another layer of aggregate. This process seals the surface treatment and establishes a layer of fiber that blocks water from permeating the layers, which in turn reduces cracks inthe roadway. In documented testing, FIBERMAT has proven to enhance the tensile strength of a road while spreading the stress of cars traveling above over a greater area.
Russell Standard is installing this process on Painters Run Road in Scott Township, PA. The benefits of this technology are vast. Municipalities have seen a reduction in cost due to lower maintenance requirements and repairs while the general public has the ability to drive on the newly installed road surface in a quicker timeframe. Both ofthese benefits also improve the safety of the crews installing the surface due to the decreased times in the field compared to traditional chip seal processes.
Safety becomes the most important benefit. With a quicker application time crews are not required to manage traffic flow. In addition the emulsion process does not require the traditional hotter temperatures of traditional asphalt sealant. Lastly, the material is recyclable.
For over eighty years, Russell Standard has been a leader in providing paving solutions to municipalities and state agencies throughoutthe Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
