Fawley | Bryant’s Herald Court Centre Receives Award

PRESS RELEASE, 09.29.2010 -- Fawley|Bryant’s Herald Court Centre received the prestigious 2010 Secretary of the State’s Florida Main Street Award for “Outstanding New Construction Project”. Florida’s Secretary of State, Dawn Kimmel Roberts, presented the award during the Main Street Florida Annual Banquet held September 16, 2010 in Punta Gorda. In her comments she stated that the Award is given to projects that show exemplary design and positive impact on Florida’s City Historic Main Streets.
Herald Court Centre is a mixed use building that houses 16,000+ square feet of commercial street level retail and 400 parking spaces on the three floors above. Because the facility is located in the heart of downtown Punta Gorda, adjacent to the recently renovated Historic Charlotte Court House, it was critical that the exterior façade fit within the context of the existing cityscape. The solution was a design that reflects a traditional main street row house image that gives the appearance of many separate buildings built over time. The inclusion of the commercial component creates a destination place in lieu of just a point of departure from the parking garage. A pedestrian alley bisects the site and provides internal circulation as well as a connection extending through downtown. This facility complete with public restrooms, bike racks and public benches has already become a landmark within the city by hosting community events such as block parties, annual fireworks and private parties.
The Herald Court Centre will be the future home for a continuing adult education center for Florida Gulf Coast University and a local Artisans Atelier (workshop) to help enhance and strengthen the existing arts community in downtown Punta Gorda.
