Mandating Green Building

When the government gets involved and begins requiring the use of new processes and procedures, technology initiatives seem to gain quite a bit of momentum. Take for example, BIM (building information modeling). The U.S. GSA (General Service Admin.), www.gsa.org, Washington, D.C., began requiring the use of BIM on federally funded projects in 2007 and the industry began to take notice.

While technologies to enable the BIM process may not be mainstream yet, the applications have received quite a bit attention in the commercial construction industry, especially by the larger construction firms.

Now, the same trend appears to be happening with green building.
